HEARING GOD:
A three-week yoga journey and Bible study
through the story of Elijah

Join me for a three-week yoga journey and Bible study all about learning to hear from God.

We’re diving deep into the story of the prophet Elijah, tracing his journey from hearing God on a mountaintop in a big powerful way, to seeking God in the barrenness of a desert, and finally, hearing God speak in a quiet whisper from a cave. You and I can walk with the same level of intimacy and connection with God no matter what season we’re in, no matter how many unanswered prayers we’re wrestling with. He has something to speak to me and you, if only we’ll learn to listen.

Each week, we examine a different piece of this story. Here’s what you’ll receive each week:

  • 35-45 minute yoga practice you can stream or download to practice from the comfort of your home. Modifications are offered throughout the practice to accommodate all experience levels.
  • Scripture download
  • Journaling worksheet you can download or print out to help you reflect
  • 5 minute audio meditation to use alongside the journaling worksheet to help you quiet your mind to better hear God and process what he’s speaking to your heart

You’ll receive the content over three weeks in your inbox, ensuring that the truth of it soaks in. Let’s cut through the noise and learn how to hear God in a deeper and transformative way. Will you join me?

WEEK 1: Hearing God on The Mountaintop

In an event designed to shock and awe, Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to a test to see which god was the true God and thus, convince the Israelites to turn back to Yahweh. The prophets of Baal spend hours crying out to their god, beating themselves bloody, and failing to conjure any answer. Elijah then looks up to heaven, makes a simple request of God, and God answers powerfully, sending fire from heaven, and then sending rain to end a years-long famine.

Hearing God Series Week 1 Caroline Williams Yoga
  • 40 minute Warrior Flow yoga practice where you’ll move through various Warrior sequences to help build heat and strength in our bodies. The three Warrior poses and their variations are what I like to call “power poses” – they cultivate a feeling of confidence, strength, and empowerment. We’ll balance them with some poses that invite us to surrender deeply and humbly.  This practice will help us meditate and embody the powerful experience Elijah had on the top of Mt. Carmel when God answered his prayer with literal fire from heaven. Sometimes, God speaks in loud, obvious, and powerful ways – this yoga practice will reflect that. As always, modifications are offered throughout to make this practice accessible to all bodies.
  • Journaling worksheet you can download or print out to help you reflect on the ways you’ve heard or seen God move in powerful ways. Through the questions on this worksheet, you’ll be challenged to ask God for bigger and bolder things while reflecting on his character as a loving Father.
  • 5 minute audio meditation to help you slow down the chatter in your brain and hear from God more easily. You can play this audio download wherever and whenever you need a short time out to catch your breath and reconnect with your heart.

WEEK 2: Hearing God in the Desert

Hearing God Series Week 2 Caroline Williams Yoga

Even though God answered Elijah’s prayer with fire from heaven and then sent rain after years of famine, not all of Elijah’s problems were solved. The Queen of Israel vowed to murder Elijah and so, afraid for his life, Elijah fled to the desert, crying out to God in despair and wishing he was dead.  Elijah spent 40 days and 40 nights in the desert, a theme throughout the Bible signifying seasons of barrenness in our own life when we cry out to God but feel like we hear only silence in return.

  • 45 minute Heart Opening Yoga Practice designed to help peel back layers of frustration, disappointment, bitterness, anger, or anything less than Love that’s built up around your heart while wandering through your own desert season. We’ll move and breathe into a deeper understanding of the desert experiences in our own life, and see how God provides, comforts, and even speaks in the desert.
  • Journaling worksheet to help you probe where God is and what He has for you in your own desert season. These questions will help remind your heart that you are never alone, no matter how long it’s felt like you’ve wandered in the wilderness.
  • 5 minute audio meditation to help you slow down the chatter in your brain and hear from God more easily. You can play this audio download wherever and whenever you need a short time out to catch your breath and reconnect with your heart.

WEEK 3: Hearing God's Whisper

Hearing God Series Week 3 Caroline Williams Yoga

After traveling over 100 miles through the desert, Elijah arrives at Mt. Horeb, the place God spoke to Moses through the burning bush and years later, where he passed down the Ten Commandments. This was holy ground and Elijah arrived quenched and desperate. But God didn’t speak to Elijah like he spoke on Mt. Carmel, in fire and fury. Instead, it was a still quiet whisper that answered Elijah’s cries.

  • 35 minute Soft & Gentle Yoga Flow designed to quiet your body, heart, mind, and spirit. This practice is free of big powerful poses, or deep heart openers, but instead, invites you to surrender into the stillness, to give into deep breaths and tune in to His presence.
  • Journaling worksheet to help you hear what God is saying specifically to you, when all your expectations and comparisons are pushed aside. These questions will help you connect with God and hear the truth that your heart needs to hear – that you are infinitely loved, treasured, valued, and chosen.
  • 5 minute audio meditation to help you connect with your breath and make space to hear God in the whisper. Deepening your breath and laying aside your to-do list for 5 minutes can have a profound effect on our ability to notice God in and around us in the present moment.
