February 11 - 17 | Costa Rica
In the jungle of Costa Rica there is a place called Refugio Solte, a safe place to let go.
Those who’ve been there call it the place where heaven and the jungle collide, and I have the privilege of partnering with this beautiful place to bring you a weeklong yoga retreat in February 2018. In the thick of winter, after the craziness of the holidays, come away and rest, be renewed, and restored to a deeper sense of your identity and purpose.
Refugio Solte was built as a place of rest, renewal and training for current and emerging leaders of God’s kingdom. That's you, and that's me. But the truth is, we can’t lead from a place of exhaustion, carrying back-breaking burdens we weren’t meant to carry. So this week up on Abba's mountain in the jungle of Costa Rica will be all about remembering we are human beings and not human doings.
Are you weary? Carrying a heavy burden? Then come to Me. I will refresh your life as you rest with Me. Accept only the task that I give you as my true disciple-- simply join your life with Mine, and let Me be your Teacher. You'll discover that I am gentle, humble, easy to please, and I'll give you satisfying rest. For I only place upon you what is pleasant and easy to carry.
— Matthew 11:28-30, Passion Translation
What to expect: A day on Abba's mountain
The sun rises early each morning at Refugio Solte, so we'll rise with it and start each day with yoga on the veranda with the breeze blowing in and the sounds of the jungle all around. After yoga, the morning is yours to read, write, play, or just sit and admire the stunning views of the jungle all the way out to the Pacific Ocean. These sacred mornings are your time to answer God's invitation to rest and reconnect.
In the middle of the day we'll head out in search of adventure. We'll hike through the surrounding jungle to some breathtaking waterfalls (and swim in the pools!), venture down the mountain to some of the nearby beaches like Playa Ventanas and Playa Dominicalito, and visit some of the local towns for some good food and shopping.
Back at Refugio Solte we'll dive back into our yoga practice on the veranda as the sun sets and then share a big unrushed meal together. As darkness envelopes and the stars appear, we'll gather around a bonfire or you can find a quiet spot to gaze up at the stars before turning in for the night.
7am: Gentle morning yoga and prayer on the open air veranda
8am: Nourish your body with some breakfast and nourish your heart + soul with some unhurried time to read your Bible, journal, dig into a good book, pour some coffee and connect with a new friend
12pm: Enjoy an energizing organic lunch amidst the twittering sounds of the jungle as the sun intensifies, beckoning you to venture out and play
1:30pm: Grab your swimsuit, sandals, and beach towel and we'll head down to Playa Ventanas – a stunning beach with naturally formed sea caves. Play in the sand, splash in the waves, climb on the rocks and wander through the caves.
4:30pm: Evening yoga session back on the veranda as the sun sets
6pm: Big family dinner set to the soundtrack of the jungle followed by even more easy conversation around the fire

Our Hosts: Jason & Sarah
Jason, a Louisiana boy, and Sarah, a Honduran daughter of missionaries, met and chose deep love for each other while attending college in New Orleans.
"We were married in June of 2006 and a few days after our honeymoon were asked to go to Costa Rica for one year to manage the construction project of Refugio Solté. With nothing tying us down, we set off for a one year jungle adventure, not knowing that nearly ten years later the adventure would still be unfolding. God added two wild blessings to our story, our sons Luka (2009) and Niko (2011). Together we direct the happenings of Refugio Solté, seeking daily what God's plans are for His mountain and following after what He is already doing. We consider it an honor to be a part of what God is moving in so many lives, investing encouragement and the truth of Christ into people we encounter. He is worthy of it all! If there is any way we can bless or serve you, please feel free to contact us." - Jason and Sarah
Jason & Sarah host large groups nearly year-round at Refugio Solte, serving groups of all ages from around the world and camps for local children. It was their idea to use their big beautiful space to host a Jesus-centered yoga retreat. Not only will you be blessed by the beauty of Refugio Solte and Costa Rica, but your attendance at the retreat will bless them. Once the basic costs are covered, all that is remaining will be reinvested into Refugio Solte to help them continue their mission of providing rest, renewal, and training to current and emerging Kingdom leaders.
They are a wonderful, passionate, big-hearted couple and I know you will be so blessed by them this week!
